Susan Larson began tole painting with acrylics in 1997. In 2002, after 15 years in public relations, she opened Pookie Bear's Den in Leesburg. The shop offered supplies and classes in tole painting, wet-on-wet oils, One Stroke, watercolors, pen & ink with oil rouging, basketry and quilting.

During the three years her shop was open, Susan became proficient and certified in the pen and ink with oil rouging technique being made popular by New York artist Mary Owens. Not only does Susan teach the technique, she also designs pattern packets and offers pet and home portraits utilizing the little known technique.

One of Susan's pet portraits, Tabitha, won the People's Choice Award at the 2005 Pal-It-In-The-Park held by the Eustis Art League.

Susan graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, she has worked for various non-profit and government agencies. She is a native Floridian, is married and has a son who is currently serving in the U.S. Army.
